The movie "Hope" (directed by Na Hong-jin) has claimed the number one spot at the daily box office for the eighth consecutive day.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing computer network on the 23rd, "Hope" drew 131,829 viewers nationwide on the 22nd, bringing its cumulative audience to 2,533,444.

"Hope" surpassed 2 million moviegoers just five days after its release, boasting the fastest box office momentum among films released this year. However, entering its second week, the onset of a downward trend remains a point of concern. While it maintains a wide lead over the second-place film "Minions & Monsters" (18,079 viewers), sustaining its own competitive momentum is crucial.

Above all, polarizing reviews for the film could potentially hinder the expansion of word-of-mouth recommendations. "Hope" is expected to break the 3 million viewer mark sometime this week, though it still has a long way to go before reaching its break-even point of 7 million.

"Hope" is an sci-fi action thriller about Beom-seok (played by Hwang Jung-min), the head of the Hopohang branch located in the Demilitarized Zone, who responds to a report about a tiger sighting and encounters an unimaginable entity. Directed by Na Hong-jin, known for "The Chaser" and "The Wailing," the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon.
