President Lee Jae-myung will hold a large-scale real estate debate today (July 23) to discuss policy directions with the public.

The "National Public Debate on Real Estate Policy," which will run for 100 minutes starting at 10 a.m. today, will be attended by a total of 140 people, including YouTubers, members of real estate and parenting online communities, representatives from related civic groups, realtors, financial sector workers, journalists, and professors.

Key officials will also be in attendance, including Prime Minister Han Sung-sook, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy Koo Yun-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok, and Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eok-won.

After listening to the results of prior opinion collection and presentations by experts in the fields of housing supply, finance, and taxation, participants are scheduled to engage in an open discussion.

In particular, attention is focused on whether President Lee will directly address the 1.7 billion won mortgage established when he and his spouse sold their apartment in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

The discussion is also expected to cover the appropriate level of holding taxes, their relationship with transaction taxes, the use of holding tax revenues, and whether to impose differential taxes on owner-occupied, non-owner-occupied, and ultra-high-priced homes, along with the criteria for doing so.

The government plans to reflect the results of today's debate into the final tax code revision and announce it as early as the end of this month.
