South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and French President Emmanuel Macron will co-chair the first international summit focusing on the future of film and visual content in France early this September.

According to the Élysée Palace on the 22nd (local time), the two leaders will chair the "Lumière Summit" on September 7 in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a small town in southern France.

Around 150 participants, including major executives from the film, broadcasting, visual media, and gaming industries, policy-makers, political leaders, and figures from the arts and culture sectors, are set to attend from about 30 countries worldwide.

Attendees will discuss challenges and opportunities surrounding the future of the film and visual content industries, and are expected to reach a consensus on concrete action plans regarding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), early media education, and the economic models of the industry.

The Élysée Palace explained that "the Lumière Summit will serve as a strategic platform to build new cooperative relationships in the film and visual content industries."

In addition, the Élysée Palace stated that this summit will serve as an occasion to demonstrate France's continued strong appeal in the fields of film, television series, animation, and gaming.

It also expressed expectations that the event will widely promote France's industrial and cultural strengths in shaping the future of the film and visual content industries.

President Lee's schedule to visit France in September was partially revealed when President Macron visited South Korea last April.

At the time, President Macron proposed a joint bilateral event to President Lee, and with President Lee accepting the proposal, specific plans for the event were arranged.

This year marks the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and France, prompting active exchange programs between the two countries.
