Police are investigating after white powder, suspected to be illicit drugs, was found at Seoul Olympic Park amid ongoing protests blocking the Jamsil vote counting station, which were sparked by a shortage of ballot papers during the June 3 local elections.

According to the Seoul Songpa Police Station today (July 22), a plastic bag containing unidentified white powder was recently found at a pavilion inside Olympic Park.

The pavilion is located approximately 300 meters away from the Handball Gymnasium where the rallies are taking place.

Police received a report at around 3:59 p.m. on the 17th stating that there was white powder believed to be drugs inside the park.

Officers dispatched to the scene conducted a preliminary 10-drug panel test on the powder, which all returned negative results.

However, police have requested an analysis from the National Forensic Service to more precisely determine whether the substance is a controlled drug.

A police official stated, "We are awaiting the results from the National Forensic Service," adding, "The shape and size of the plastic bag differ from those typically used in drug drop methods."
