Joining us for Wednesday's Friendly Economy is reporter Han Jiyeon. Han, we are talking about auto insurance today.

[Reporter]

If you have children, you can receive an auto insurance discount of up to 23%.

Now, you can apply for this discount without the hassle of preparing documents.

There is a special rider for child discounts in auto insurance.

It provides a discount if you have an unborn child or a child aged 18 or younger, based on the observation that parents tend to drive more cautiously.

However, until now, you had to separately obtain and submit a family relation certificate to receive this discount.

You no longer need to do that.

Relevant associations and agencies have linked their systems to automatically verify family relations through administrative data.

This means insurance companies can now verify your family status through their systems without you needing to issue any documents.

Additionally, the family bundle discount, which you receive when family members sign up for the same insurance, will also be applied with about a 5% discount without the need for paperwork.

Starting with KB Insurance this month, this system will be introduced sequentially by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Life Insurance, NH NongHyup Life Insurance, and DB Insurance between August and October.

I think there are quite a few people who are unaware of the insurance you are about to introduce.

If you are a Seoul resident, you are already covered by safety insurance without any separate registration process.

Many people miss out on insurance benefits because they are unaware of this fact.

It is quite unexpected.

You do not pay a single cent in premiums, and it applies to everyone registered as a resident in Seoul, including foreigners.

It is a safety insurance that provides support for medical expenses in cases such as falling on a bus or disasters like fires or typhoons. It has been in operation since 2020, and nearly 4.6 billion won has been paid out for nearly 600 cases through last year.

Notably, starting this year, sinkhole accidents have been added to the coverage, and you can receive up to 25 million won in the event of death or permanent disability.

Not only the Seoul Metropolitan Government but also the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul operate their own separate policies.

District-level insurance covers more daily-life-oriented accidents such as dog bite incidents, bicycle accidents, and traffic accidents in Silver Zones.

If the coverage overlaps, you can receive benefits from both the city and the district.

However, there is something important here.

Just because it is an automatic enrollment, it does not mean the insurance money is paid out automatically when an accident occurs.

You or your family must file a claim directly with the insurance company, and you must apply within 3 years from the date of the accident or the date of the permanent disability diagnosis.

If you miss this deadline, you cannot receive the benefits.

Even if you have private indemnity or injury insurance, you can receive overlapping compensation, so if you have been injured recently, I recommend checking your local district office website.

Is a lot of money flowing into savings accounts these days?

[Reporter]

In this month alone, 16 trillion won has flowed into time deposits at the five major banks.

It is analyzed that as the base interest rate has risen, deposit interest rates have increased, and funds have moved due to stock market instability.

The term JOMO is trending in stock investment communities these days.

In the past, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), the anxiety of missing an opportunity, was popular, but as the KOSPI and KOSDAQ continue to fluctuate significantly, the opposite term, JOMO, is gaining popularity.

JOMO, which stands for Joy of Missing Out, means it is okay to miss out, and it is being used to mean, I am glad I did not invest, or The person who did not buy is the winner.

In the past month, the stock market has fluctuated so much that the sell-side sidecar was triggered 18 times and the circuit breaker 5 times, and a significant number of investors in semiconductor leverage products have suffered losses.

With the situation like this, people are turning their eyes toward safer deposits rather than risky stocks, and banks are also raising their deposit and savings interest rates one after another to reflect the rise in market interest rates.

Among the five major banks, Shinhan Bank and Woori Bank have recently raised their rates by about 0.2 to 0.4 percentage points, and 1-year time deposits have reached the low to mid-3% range.

Looking at the first-tier banking sector as a whole, there are places that offer up to 3.85% when including preferential interest rates.

As a result, nearly 16 trillion won has flocked to the five major banks in 15 days, which is the largest increase since May of last year.
