The National Assembly Special Committee on the Investigation into the Ballot Shortage Incident during the June 3 Local Elections will hold its second hearing today (July 22) to uncover the truth, summoning key witnesses including Wi Chul-hwan, Acting Chairperson of the National Election Commission (NEC).

The special committee is scheduled to begin the second hearing at 10:00 a.m. today, with plans to call 34 witnesses, including 17 officials from the NEC, and 3 references.

The list of witnesses also includes 5 officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission, 4 from the Songpa-gu Election Commission, and 2 each from the Jeonbuk Provincial and Wansan-gu Election Commissions.

The committee has also decided to request the attendance of Park Jung-bo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency; Jin Myung-ki, Head of the Local Innovation Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; and Kim Sung-jun, Head of the Personnel and Welfare Office at the Ministry of National Defense.

While ruling and opposition parties reached an agreement yesterday on the procedure for recommending a special prosecutor for the NEC, a decision on whether to conduct a public recount has not yet been made, and related discussions are expected to continue during today's hearing.

The special committee also plans to push for the adoption of a report on the investigation results following today's hearing, though the schedule may change depending on agreements between the ruling and opposition parties.
