Today, July 21, the weather in the central and southern regions of Korea remained starkly different.

While the central regions were hit with heavy rain, the southern regions faced an intense heatwave.

A stationary front is currently positioned over the central regions, while the North Pacific High has expanded its influence, covering the southern parts of the country.

The monsoon season will officially end once this North Pacific High pushes the stationary front further north toward North Korea.

For the remainder of this week, the stationary front is expected to fluctuate over the central regions, causing monsoon rain to continue intermittently.

In particular, from early tomorrow morning through the morning hours, some areas in southern Gangwon, southern Gyeonggi, and northern Chungcheong provinces will experience heavy rainfall.

These regions could see heavy downpours of up to 80mm or more, while other parts of the central region may receive up to 60mm of rain. However, there will be more frequent lulls in the rain tomorrow.

Meanwhile, heatwave advisories have been expanded to most parts of the country, excluding the Seoul metropolitan area.

Tomorrow, the Yeongnam region is expected to be particularly hot, with daytime temperatures in Pohang reaching 37°C (99°F).

Tropical nights, where temperatures remain high overnight, are expected in most regions as the heat fails to dissipate. Tomorrow, daytime temperatures will climb to 30°C (86°F) in Seoul and 35°C (95°F) in Daegu.

Monsoon rain will continue to fluctuate in intensity across the central regions through the weekend.

As the ground in the central regions is already saturated from previous heavy rainfall, extra caution is advised to prevent further damage from landslides.
