The LG Twins, who have slipped to third place in the KBO League, have released foreign right-handed pitcher Yacksel Rios.
The LG club requested waivers for Rios from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) today, July 21.
An official from the LG club stated, "We are in the final stages of negotiations with a new foreign pitcher," adding, "We plan to announce the signing soon."
The team signed Rios last month after their foreign pitcher Yonny Chirinos struggled with elbow pain this season.
Rios recorded 1 win, 2 losses, 5 holds, and 2 saves with a 3.63 ERA in 14 relief appearances. LG decided to replace him, determining that he was not providing significant help in the team's race for the standings.
It is reported that LG was on the verge of signing a right-handed pitcher who had been playing in Triple-A of Major League Baseball, but the deal fell through after the pitcher was called up to the big leagues.
LG has since shifted its focus and selected another player as the right candidate.
