The Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB) are now just one win away from tying the franchise record for the longest winning streak in 80 years.

Boston defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in a home game held at Fenway Park in Boston today (July 21), extending their winning streak to 14 games.

With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the 8th inning, Caleb Durbin hit a game-winning solo home run that landed in the upper section of left-center field over the Green Monster, securing the 14th consecutive win.

If they win tomorrow's game, Boston will tie the franchise record for the longest winning streak, a feat not achieved since 1946, when the team was led by the last .400 hitter, Ted Williams.

As of June 25, Boston was struggling with a 32-46 record, holding the lowest winning percentage in the American League. Since then, the team has surged with a 19-2 record, climbing to 51-48 and moving into 3rd place in the American League East, trailing the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays by 6 games.

They are currently 3rd in the league's wild card standings, and if they maintain this momentum, they could secure a spot in the postseason.

Boston closer Aroldis Chapman faced a potential comeback threat after allowing a hit and a walk in today's game, but he retired the final batter with a line drive to the shortstop. He earned his 22nd save of the season and the 389th of his career, moving within one save of Dennis Eckersley (390 saves) for 9th place on the all-time list.
