The National Fire Agency announced that it has launched a central joint investigation team to determine the cause of the fire at the Coupang logistics center in Incheon.
The joint investigation team consists of approximately 30 members from 8 different agencies. They plan to examine the cause of ignition, the path of the fire, and structural vulnerabilities through on-site inspections and scientific analysis.
In particular, the team plans to conduct precise forensic examinations and fire reconstruction experiments, focusing on the logistics equipment, electrical facilities, and stored goods on the 6th floor of the logistics center where the fire originated. They will also comprehensively analyze the potential for secondary damage, including human and material losses, as well as the possibility of hazardous material leaks.
Jo Young-guk, Director General of the 119 Response Bureau at the National Fire Agency, stated, "This investigation will go beyond simply identifying the cause; it will serve as foundational data for establishing policies to prevent similar large-scale fires and strengthen safety in logistics facilities."
