U.S. President Donald Trump stated on July 20 (local time) that "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel will not be arrested in any way while he is in the United States."

President Trump made the remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social, explaining, "Prime Minister Netanyahu is fighting against Iran, which has recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters and has been killing U.S. soldiers and others for the past 47 years."

He further emphasized, "The only people who should be arrested are those who have led Iran into this unprecedented spiral of death and destruction."

This statement serves as a public rebuttal to New York City Council Member Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, who had previously raised the possibility of arresting Prime Minister Netanyahu during his expected visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Prime Minister Netanyahu in November 2024 on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
