Yoo Byung-ho, a member of the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) suspected of overseeing a lenient audit regarding the relocation of the presidential residence, has been arrested.

Lee Jong-rok, a senior judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Commissioner Yoo this evening (July 20), citing concerns over the destruction of evidence.

Previously, the 2nd Special Prosecutor's Team led by Kwon Chang-young had requested an arrest warrant for Yoo on charges of abuse of power.

Yoo is accused of improperly intervening to downplay or cover up the results of an audit concerning the relocation of the presidential office and residence while serving as the Secretary General of the Board of Audit and Inspection during the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.

The special prosecutor's team suspects that Yoo provided guidelines to the audit team regarding the investigation process and the procedures for requesting materials.

Yoo is also suspected of being involved in the concealment and reduction of the audit report's findings.

The special prosecutor's team plans to conduct a full-scale investigation into whether higher-level figures, including former President Yoon and Kim Keon-hee, were involved, now that Yoo has been taken into custody.
