Han Byung-do, Acting Representative and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on July 20 that the party plans to hold a plenary session of the National Assembly today to process the amendment to the Comprehensive Special Counsel Act, which aims to further extend the investigation period for the second comprehensive special counsel.

During the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, the acting representative stated, "The second comprehensive special counsel was launched to uncover the truth behind the ongoing insurrection and manipulation of state affairs to the very end."

He emphasized, "We cannot halt a special counsel investigation that is currently in full swing simply because of time constraints," adding, "The public's demand is not to end the special counsel on a fixed date, but to uncover the truth behind the insurrection and manipulation of state affairs without a single shred of doubt."

Addressing the People Power Party, which is boycotting National Assembly schedules, the acting representative urged, "If you are going to boycott the plenary session, skip standing committee meetings, oppose the special counsel, and delay the recount, then you should at least return your salaries."

He added, "Representative Jang Dong-hyeok and the People Power Party must immediately stop 'asphalt politics' and conspiracy theories regarding election fraud and return to the National Assembly," and continued, "If you truly care for the country and the people, I hope you will show the responsibility expected of the main opposition party here in the National Assembly, rather than resorting to inflammatory rhetoric and agitation."

Regarding the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which is linked to the issue of abolishing the prosecution's supplementary investigation rights, he said, "We will hold a policy general meeting of lawmakers tomorrow to continue in-depth discussions," and added, "Through intense debate, we will faithfully prepare institutional safeguards to ensure there are no gaps in victim protection or the state's investigative capabilities."
