In the women's doubles at the Badminton Japan Open, world No. 6 Kim Hye-jeong and Kong Hee-yong defeated the world No. 2 Chinese pair to claim the championship after a grueling match featuring 10 deuces.

After splitting the first two games, the two teams remained locked in a tight battle until the final third game.

Kim and Kong took the lead, only for the Chinese pair to catch up. The match headed to deuce after the Chinese team tied the score at 21-20, which was a match point for the Korean pair.

In badminton, if deuces continue until both sides reach 29 points, the first team to reach 30 wins. The two teams engaged in a fierce battle that saw 10 deuces, bringing the score to 29-29.

In the final, winner-take-all moment, a smash from the Chinese player was ruled out following a video review, putting an end to the breathtaking 99-minute match. Kim and Kong collapsed onto the court, shedding tears of joy as they celebrated their victory.

Having won the Japan Open following their success at the Uber Cup this past May, Kim and Kong have brightened their prospects for the Nagoya Asian Games in September.

Meanwhile, the men's doubles pair of Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho lost 2-0 to an Indonesian pair, failing to secure their second consecutive title.
