Coupang has issued an apology regarding the fire at its logistics center in Incheon, stating that it will actively cooperate with firefighting efforts and the authorities' investigation.
In a statement released today (July 18) under the name of CEO Jeong Jong-cheol, Coupang explained, "We reported the fire to 119 immediately after it was detected, and the fire department responded promptly. All employees who were at the logistics center at the time evacuated safely."
The company emphasized, "We will prioritize the safety of the firefighters, support the firefighting operations on-site, and fully cooperate with the investigation by the relevant authorities."
Coupang added, "We bow our heads in apology for causing concern to the residents of Incheon and the public."
The fire began around 6:54 a.m. today on the 6th floor of the 8-story Coupang 32 logistics center, which has a total floor area of 299,000 square meters, located in Seoknam-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon.
The fire authorities issued a Level 1 response at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Level 2 response around 12:25 p.m., and a national firefighting mobilization order around 3:15 p.m.
However, despite the authorities' efforts to extinguish the blaze, the fire has not yet been brought under control.
