Ten years after Lee Sedol 9-dan defended the pride of humanity by defeating AlphaGo in their fourth match, a new event has unfolded on the Go board that demonstrates just how far AI has advanced.
Shin Jin-seo 9-dan, currently considered the strongest human player, has been defeated by an AI despite receiving a two-stone handicap.
Shin 9-dan played as Black, starting with two stones already placed on the board in a handicap match against the Go AI Katago.
Although he remained composed and secured territory despite Katago's unconventional moves in the early game, he was unable to withstand the AI's computational power from the mid-game onward and eventually lost control of the match.
Shin 9-dan ultimately resigned after 245 moves. We hope to see him deliver a "divine move," much like Lee Sedol did 10 years ago, in the remaining matches.
