President Lee Jae-myung attended the launch ceremony of the 'Committee of Light,' established to honor the spirit of the Constitution and commemorate the citizens who stood against the illegal martial law on December 3. President Lee stated that no one should reign above the Constitution and expressed his intention to designate December 3 of every year as a national commemorative day.

The launch ceremony for the presidential 'Committee of Light,' created to inherit the spirit of the citizens who resisted the illegal martial law on December 3, was held at the Blue House.
With about 100 people in attendance, including citizens who took to the streets during the martial law, President Lee Jae-myung said that it was thanks to the citizens that martial law could be lifted and the Constitution and democracy could be restored.
[President Lee Jae-myung: Democracy and national sovereignty must never be threatened again. No one should ever attempt to reign above the Constitution.]
He also reaffirmed his intention to designate December 3 of every year as a national commemorative day.
[President Lee Jae-myung: We will designate (December 3) as National Sovereignty Day so that the values of democracy can be fully inherited by the next generation forever.]
President Lee repeatedly mentioned the core principle of the Constitution that 'the state exists for the people,' emphasizing that the public responsibilities of those in power and other public figures must be directed toward everyone. This has led to interpretations that the remarks were made with the recent conflicts within the ruling party, such as the prosecution's supplementary investigation powers, in mind.
[President Lee Jae-myung: With the size of authority always comes the size of responsibility. And that responsibility should be directed toward everyone. I believe this is something public figures should always reflect upon.]
President Lee presented certificates of appreciation to citizens who confronted martial law troops during the incident and watched a documentary film about the martial law situation together.
