Kwon Chang-hoon (32), who has played as a midfielder for the national football team, has left the K League 1 stage to join the Indonesian professional football club Persija Jakarta, led by manager Shin Tae-yong.
Persija Jakarta announced on its official website today (July 17) that it has signed a two-year contract with Kwon to strengthen its squad for the 2026-2027 season, stating, "We expect Kwon's wealth of experience and versatility to bolster our attacking lineup."
Persija Jakarta appointed manager Shin Tae-yong, who previously served as the head coach of the Indonesian national team, to lead the club last month.
Kwon, who entered the K League in 2013 with Suwon Samsung, successfully moved to Europe in 2017 to join Dijon in France's Ligue 1. He later played for SC Freiburg in the German Bundesliga before returning to K League 1 in 2021 after signing with Suwon.
Kwon completed his military service while playing for Gimcheon Sangmu from 2022 to 2023. After joining Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in 2024, he transferred to Jeju SK FC this year, where he appeared in 13 matches.
Kwon has also scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for the national team.
The Persija Jakarta club expressed its high expectations, stating, "Kwon is a player with diverse experience. Having played in Europe and experienced the highest level of international football as a member of the South Korean national team, he will be a great asset to our team."
Kwon stated through the club's website, "I chose Persija because I wanted a new challenge."
He added, "I have watched manager Shin Tae-yong's work in Indonesia and have seen the remarkable development of Indonesian football. That gave me a positive impression of Indonesian football and Persija, which led to my decision to transfer."
