A fire broke out in Daegwallyeong Tunnel 4 on the Yeongdong Expressway, heading toward Gangneung, in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, at approximately 11:50 a.m. today (July 17).

The fire occurred after a chain-reaction collision involving four vehicles inside the tunnel. It has been confirmed that all 16 people, including the drivers of the vehicles involved, evacuated safely, and there were no casualties.

Fire authorities completely extinguished the blaze at approximately 1:25 p.m., about one hour and 30 minutes after it started.

As the Korea Expressway Corporation clears the accident site, vehicles entering the Daegwallyeong Tollgate toward Gangneung are being diverted to local roads.
