Director Na Hong-jin's film 'Hope' surpassed 1 million viewers as of this afternoon, Friday, July 17, just three days after its release.

This is one day faster than director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie film 'Colony,' which reached the 1 million mark on its fourth day, setting the record for the fastest-reaching film among those released this year.

'Hope,' which was released on July 15, tells the story of what happens when an unknown extraterrestrial life form arrives in Hopohang, a fictional village near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

As director Na's first science fiction film in 10 years since 'The Wailing' (2016), it garnered significant anticipation before its release, featuring a cast that includes Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon, as well as Hollywood actors Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell.

The film is receiving mixed reviews, recording an 81% rating on the CGV Egg Index, which is based on evaluations from actual viewers.

While the film has been highly praised for its suspense and action direction, some have pointed out shortcomings in its narrative.
