A survey has revealed that the international community now views China more favorably than the United States.

The Pew Research Center, a U.S.-based polling organization, announced that in a survey of over 42,000 adults across 36 countries, China's favorability rating surpassed that of the U.S. in a majority of the nations surveyed.

The results showed that in 25 out of the 36 countries, respondents viewed China more positively than the U.S.

The institute has been tracking international public opinion on major powers since 2002, and this marks the first time that the U.S. has trailed China in favorability ratings.

Pew Research analyzed that international sentiment toward the U.S. has worsened since the inauguration of the second Donald Trump administration in January of last year.

While the gap had been narrowing, the favorability ratings reversed this year, with China's favorability rating standing 10 percentage points higher than that of the U.S.

Favorability toward the U.S. has fallen by 12 percentage points compared to last year, and has dropped by 22 percentage points over the past three years.

Conversely, favorability toward China has risen by 8 percentage points compared to last year.

In terms of the number of countries, the favorability ratings for the two nations crossed paths in 20 out of the 36 countries.

Pew Research analyzed these results as a reflection of the deteriorating perception of the U.S.

The report stated, "While support for Chinese President Xi Jinping is not necessarily strong, many people evaluate that Xi appears better than Trump."

Looking at the results by country, Israel was the most favorable toward the U.S. with an 81% rating, while Pakistan was the most favorable toward China with a 90% rating.

Brazil showed nearly identical favorability ratings for both countries, while Canada and Mexico, which share borders with the U.S., recorded U.S. favorability ratings of 33% and 40%, respectively.

Japan recorded the lowest favorability toward China at 11%.

South Korea recorded a U.S. favorability rating of 45% and a China favorability rating of 28%.
