Police have requested an arrest warrant for a woman in her 30s who blocked the entrance of sports organizations affiliated with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee at the Olympic Park vote counting station last month.
The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced today (July 16) that it has filed for a pre-indictment arrest warrant for the woman, identified as A, on charges of obstruction of business.
A is accused of obstructing the work of the sports organizations on June 16 by holding onto the door alone for approximately two hours, preventing entry even after People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk and protesters had reached an agreement to allow the sports organizations into the gymnasium.
At the time, despite attempts at persuasion by leader Jang and Lee Kee-heung, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, A refused to step aside, insisting that preservation procedures for the ballots and ballot boxes inside the venue must be carried out first.
Police, who launched an investigation into the incident on June 17, summoned A for questioning as a suspect on July 10.
Additionally, police have also requested an arrest warrant for one man in his 30s among five suspects accused of illegally searching the women's junior national handball team, who entered the handball gymnasium on June 8.
Three other suspects accused of damaging the entrance and trespassing into the machine room of the handball gymnasium on June 7 have been referred to the prosecution without detention.
The police stated, "We plan to strictly investigate illegal activities at the Olympic Park vote counting station in accordance with the law and principles."
