President Lee Jae-myung pointed out the misuse of so-called deepfake videos as a serious issue today (16th) and ordered the preparation of countermeasures.
During a work report by the Korea Communications Commission and other agencies held at the Yeongbingwan of the Blue House this morning, President Lee stated, "These days, it is difficult to distinguish whether a creation is made by artificial intelligence (AI) or is a real situation, as it is so similar to actual footage."
President Lee noted, "If it is not labeled, it acts as a kind of evidence for people," adding, "Since it has a high level of credibility, failing to label it is likely to cause serious misunderstandings."
He continued, "The risks posed by AI-generated content are becoming a reality, so we need to have countermeasures in place," and reviewed the current status of regulations regarding mandatory labeling.
In the process, President Lee mentioned, "Not long ago, there was quite a stir because someone was depicted in a strange way using an AI-generated image."
This is interpreted as a reference to the recent incident involving Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Un-ju, who was a victim of a crime involving the synthesis of obscene images.
Regarding the President's directive, Kim Jong-cheol, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, stated, "Legislation to regulate the distribution stage is being prepared," and Ryu Je-myung, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, also reported, "A bill has been proposed to prevent users from damaging or deleting labels on generative AI content."
