Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon responded to remarks by People Power Party (PPP) leader Jang Dong-hyuk, who stated there was no justification for Han to return to the party, by saying, "Isn't he just trying to survive by picking a fight with me in any way he can?"
Speaking to reporters after attending the National Assembly's Global Diplomacy and Security Forum at the National Assembly Members' Office Building today, Han claimed, "I believe the number of people opposing my return to the party to satisfy their personal greed is decreasing."
Yesterday, leader Jang criticized Han in connection with the trial of Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho, who was the floor leader of the People Power Party during the emergency martial law situation, regarding charges of obstructing the vote to lift martial law.
Jang directly targeted Han, asking, "What kind of logic is it to want to return to the People Power Party after positioning yourself as the person who stopped martial law and led the impeachment, while driving Mayor Choo Kyung-ho and the People Power Party into a corner?"
In response, Han emphasized, "That is a very important past and history, but I will not dwell on it and will look toward the reconstruction and victory of the future conservative movement. I will be with everyone who agrees with that."
When asked for his opinion on People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo's suggestion that he should not return to the party but instead form a new one, Han retorted, "Is he going to form a party himself?"
