U.S. President Donald Trump stated on July 14 (local time) that he would address issues related to U.S. elections and voting machines during his address to the nation on the night of the 16th.
During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidy at the White House that day, President Trump was asked by reporters whether the address would cover the issue of "voting machines and election integrity." He replied, "I want to save it for the speech," adding, "It will be related to that, and there are a few other things I will talk about, but I want to save it."
He continued, "But it’s really big news. And our country has to improve," emphasizing, "There is nothing more important than this. Because without free and fair elections, we cannot have a country."
Although he did not disclose the details of the address to the nation, he has signaled that there will be a "major announcement" regarding elections and voting machines, while emphasizing the need for "free and fair elections."
Consequently, it appears that President Trump will reiterate his claims that the 2020 presidential election, in which he was defeated by former President Joe Biden, was rigged.
After losing the 2020 presidential election, President Trump refused to accept the results, which led to the Capitol riot on January 6 of the following year, and he continues to raise conspiracy theories that the election was rigged.
In addition, he is expected to highlight the claim that fraudulent activities are still occurring in voting across the United States and emphasize the need to pass the Save America Act, also known as the "voter ID bill."
The core of the Save America Act includes requirements for voters to present identification and proof of citizenship when voting, and a ban on mail-in ballots except for cases involving military service, illness, disability, or travel.
President Trump's address to the nation will take place on the 16th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (10:00 a.m. on the 17th, Korea Standard Time).
