The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station announced that it rescued three students who had entered a frequently flooding area of Uicheon Stream yesterday (July 14) and handed them over to their guardians.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. yesterday, officers at the Beondong Patrol Division of the Gangbuk Police Station were monitoring CCTV footage of the stream while conducting intensive patrols in response to heavy rain forecasts. During this process, they spotted three males entering the water in a section of Uicheon Stream where pedestrian access had been restricted due to the high risk of flooding.

Police immediately dispatched to the scene and guided the three individuals, who were in water reaching chest height, to a safe location for rescue.

It was confirmed that all three were high school students.

They reportedly stated, "We were curious because the stream was full of water and wanted to try swimming."

The police kept the students safe at the patrol division before releasing them to their guardians.

Kim Tae-hyun, Chief of the Gangbuk Police Station, said, "As water levels in streams can rise rapidly in a short period during heavy rainfall, we ask citizens to refrain from entering these areas," adding, "We will do our utmost to protect the lives and safety of the public through real-time monitoring and preventive patrols."
