Fire authorities have brought a large fire under control after more than 18 hours at an outdoor unloading area of Dongkuk Steel's Incheon plant.
According to the Incheon Fire Department on Wednesday (July 15), the fire started at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday in a pile of scrap metal at the outdoor unloading area of the Dongkuk Steel plant in Songhyeon-dong, Jemulpo-gu.
There were no casualties reported from the incident.
After receiving a report from a nearby military unit's situation room, fire authorities deployed 96 firefighters and 39 pieces of equipment. They succeeded in extinguishing the main blaze at approximately 1:40 p.m. today, 18 hours and 24 minutes after the fire began.

Fire authorities faced difficulties in extinguishing the fire deep within the pile of scrap metal.
The scrap metal pile was estimated to be 3 to 4 stories high and amounted to 10,000 tons.
A fire department official stated, "We carried out firefighting operations by turning over the scrap metal pile using a grab truck," adding, "We plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage as soon as the extinguishing process is complete."
