It has been revealed that Kim So-young, currently on trial for the "Gangbuk Motel Serial Drug Murder" case, claimed in a written statement submitted to the court that her "dreams were shattered because her identity was revealed."
According to lawyer Nam Eon-ho, who represents the bereaved families of the victims, Kim wrote in a recent handwritten statement submitted to the court, "I wanted to learn the business under my mother, but my dreams were shattered after my identity was made public."
She also wrote about her plans after serving her sentence, stating, "I intend to work in delivery or similar jobs once I finish my sentence so that I do not become a burden to my mother."
Kim was indicted on charges of injuring four men by giving them drug-laced drinks starting in August of last year, and killing two other men using the same method in late January and early February of this year.
Kim even took a trip to Japan in early February, shortly after the second death occurred.
In her statement, Kim added, "My older sister wanted to go on a trip to Japan, so we went on our first overseas trip together. My sister is like a second mother to me; she often protected and shielded me when my mother could not stop my father's domestic violence, so I feel very close to her."
At the same time, Kim showed resistance regarding her liability for damages to the victims' families.
Regarding the 31 million won lawsuit for damages filed by the bereaved families, Kim argued, "The amount written in the complaint is an amount I cannot repay even if I work for the rest of my life," and added, "Please only claim an amount that I can earn and repay over my lifetime."
She also drew a line, asserting that it is unfair to hold her parents liable for damages since she committed the crimes after becoming an adult.
In a document titled "Unfair Points" submitted to the court on June 19, Kim also claimed, "I was sexually molested by the victims," and argued that she only provided the drugs to stop the sexual molestation or to put the victims to sleep.
