The film "Gyeongju Journey," which has garnered significant attention for bringing together actors Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon, is set to be released on August 26.
"Gyeongju Journey" is a family revenge story about four mother and daughters who embark on a deadly trip after eight years of waiting to seek justice for their youngest daughter, "Gyeongju," who never returned from a school field trip.
The posters released alongside the announcement of the release date feature a family that appears ordinary but exudes a strange atmosphere. The copy, which hints at an intense incident, stimulates curiosity and signals the arrival of a fresh revenge film that twists typical genre conventions.
The first poster captures the four characters in a yellow van, each with a distinct demeanor. From the mother "Oksil" (Lee Jung-eun), who is praying with rosary beads, to the eldest daughter "Jang-ju" (Gong Hyo-jin), who is checking her surroundings while at the wheel, the second daughter "Young-ju" (Park So-dam), who is testing a disposable camera for an alibi, and the third daughter "Dong-ju" (Lee Yeon), who is fast asleep, each character's unique personality stands out. While it looks like a normal family trip at first glance, the red silhouette in the shape of a person between them and the provocative copy, "We kidnapped the murderer," catch the eye and hint at an unpredictable plot.

The second poster captures the four mother and daughters smiling brightly while taking a commemorative photo against the backdrop of "Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond," one of Gyeongju's representative historical sites. Dressed in matching "FAMILY" t-shirts and posing affectionately, they appear perfectly harmonious on the surface, but a chilling tension lies beneath, stemming from a meticulous revenge plan prepared over eight years. The addition of the copy, "The trip is an alibi, the goal is revenge. We kidnapped the murderer," along with bloodstains, further piques curiosity about the full story behind this "deadly" family trip.
"Gyeongju Journey" features a powerful lineup: Lee Jung-eun, who boasts a wide acting spectrum across genres including "Zombie Daughter" and "Parasite"; Gong Hyo-jin, who has captivated the public with her unique, relatable acting in works such as "The Neighbors," "When the Camellia Blooms," and "Don't Dare to Dream"; Park So-dam, who has shown delicate emotional acting and a shining presence through "Death's Game," "Parasite," and "The Priests"; and Lee Yeon, who has drawn attention for her eye-catching charm and outstanding acting skills in works like "21st Century Grand Princess" and "Juvenile Justice." It is also a rare film in which all four lead roles are played by female actors.
The film is directed by Kim Mi-jo, who was recognized for her directing prowess with her debut film "Gull." Even before its release, the work has been generating anticipation as it has been invited to prestigious film festivals, including the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Florence Korea Film Fest.
"Gyeongju Journey" will meet audiences in theaters nationwide on August 26.
