As both the prosecution and police conduct separate investigations into allegations of a botched investigation regarding the Jang Yoon-gi case, the Gwangju District Prosecutors Office has been conducting a search and seizure operation at the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency since 9:30 a.m. today (July 15).

The search targets the offices of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner and the Head of the Investigation Division, who were part of the command line during the Jang Yoon-gi case.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency is the superior body to the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, which handled the initial investigation into the Jang Yoon-gi case. It is understood that the prosecution launched this compulsory investigation to determine whether the command line at the time was involved in the alleged mishandling of the case.

The prosecution previously conducted searches of the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, including the chief's office and the violent crimes unit office, on July 7 and July 10.

In connection with these allegations, the prosecution has booked a total of four individuals so far, including the former Gwangsan Police Station chief, the head of the detective division, and the investigation team leader.
