First, let’s look at the radar imagery to see which areas are currently experiencing the most intense rainfall.
As you can see, the heavy rain clouds that brought downpours to the metropolitan area since last night have shifted slightly eastward. Currently, heavy rain of around 30mm per hour is falling in the eastern part of Gyeonggi Province and the Gangwon region.
This rainfall has two main characteristics.
First, it is concentrated within a short period of time, accompanied by strong winds.
Second, it is concentrated during the nighttime, which is a vulnerable time.
While the rain clouds are not currently highly developed over the Honam region, the low-level jet stream is expected to strengthen overnight, facilitating the supply of water vapor, which acts as fuel for the rain. As a result, the rain clouds will develop explosively.
Currently, heavy rain warnings are in effect for the northern part of the metropolitan area and the inland Gangwon region. Strong wind advisories have also been issued for the western regions, including the metropolitan area, and coastal areas.
Looking ahead, up to 120mm or more of rain is expected in northern Gyeonggi Province, over 100mm in northern Gangwon Province, up to 100mm in the metropolitan area, and up to 80mm in other central regions and the Honam region.
The rain will continue until this afternoon, with the period until dawn being the most critical.
Please take necessary precautions to prevent any damage during the night, which is a vulnerable time.
