The greenhouse gas emission limit for passenger cars that automobile manufacturers must comply with by 2030 will be strengthened by 23% compared to current regulations.

The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced that it is issuing an administrative notice for a revision to the notification, stating that the greenhouse gas emission limit for passenger cars and vans with 10 seats or fewer, which is currently set at 70 grams per kilometer for 2030, will be tightened by 23% to 54 grams per kilometer.

For vans with 11 to 15 seats and small cargo vehicles, the current 2030 standard of 146 grams per kilometer will be tightened by 33% to 98 grams per kilometer.

Starting next year, fines will be imposed on manufacturers of large cargo vehicles and tractors with a gross weight of 15 tons or more if they fail to meet greenhouse gas emission standards.

The super-credit system, which provides emission reduction incentives to automakers that sell electric, hydrogen, or hybrid vehicles with zero or relatively low emissions, will be maintained, but the extent of the emission reduction credits will be reduced compared to current levels.
