Special Counsel Requests Arrest Warrant for Former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung on Charges of Insurrection and Abuse of Power

The special counsel team has requested an arrest warrant for former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung on charges of involvement in an insurrection. The special counsel team announced today (July 14) that it has requested arrest warrants for former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung and former Supreme Prosecutors Office Planning and Coordination Department Chief Jeon Mu-gon on charges of participating in important duties of an insurrection and abuse of power. Former Prosecutor General Shim is accused of reviewing the dispatch of prosecutors to the Martial Law Joint Investigation Headquarters under the direction of former Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae on December 3, 2024, the day the emergency martial law was declared. Former Prosecutor Jeon Mu-gon, who served as the Chief of the Planning and Coordination Department at the Supreme Prosecutors Office during the martial law period, assisted former Prosecutor General Shim. He is also known to have been involved in drafting documents regarding trial jurisdiction during the emergency martial law and participating in discussions on trial jurisdiction.
