Choi Si-won, a member of the group Super Junior and an actor, has announced that he is beginning new social media activities.
Recently, Choi posted a photo of himself riding a horse on Threads, the decentralized social network service operated by Meta, along with the caption, "Is this Threads?" and added, "I started Threads, but it is very empty here."
Choi continued, "If it were not for the empathy and support you send me, my thoughts might have just remained as monologues. Every word of warm support and encouragement is a great comfort and strength to me. I sincerely thank you." He then asked, "Going forward, I would like to share the thoughts I have been contemplating while worrying about the future of our country with you all. I will also listen to and learn from different opinions. Would it be okay to have conversations together?"
This move by Choi is drawing further attention as it comes amidst a series of political interpretations and debates surrounding his previous social media posts.
Previously, on the day of the first-instance sentencing of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, Choi posted and later deleted the four-character idioms "불의필망" (injustice will surely perish) and "토붕와해" (collapse like a crumbling mound), which led to various interpretations. Last year, he also posted and deleted a tribute to American conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. Recently, he posted and deleted a photo of a night scene, presumed to be in the area around Olympic Park in Seoul.
In this process, Choi has taken strong legal action against malicious comments and political speculation directed at him. He has initiated procedures by filing requests with U.S. courts to disclose the identities of X and YouTube users, and on July 7, he expressed his determination to respond to malicious posts and insulting comments by stating, "Silence ends here. I will no longer stand by and watch malicious intent."
