The K-Football Innovation Committee held its second meeting today (July 13) and decided to extend the deadline for the by-election of the Korea Football Association (KFA) president, which was previously required to be held within 60 days.

The Innovation Committee, which convened its second meeting just one week after its first last week, reached a consensus to amend the existing regulation that mandates the election of a new president within 60 days of the resignation of former KFA President Chung Mong-gyu.

To achieve this, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the higher governing body, has decided to take the lead.

[Interview] Park Ji-sung / Chairman of the K-Football Innovation Committee: "The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee will begin the regulatory amendment process starting tomorrow and plans to complete the revision within this month. I believe that a good president can only be selected when an environment is created that allows for a proper election under appropriate circumstances, so the deadline itself is not what is important."

Furthermore, the committee plans to significantly expand the electoral college, which currently consists of between 100 and 300 voters. However, it remains unclear whether a direct election system, effectively requested by the government, will be introduced this time.

[Interview] Park Ji-sung / Chairman of the K-Football Innovation Committee: "(The introduction of a direct election system) requires consideration of time, personnel, and various other circumstances. But what is certain is that it will not be conducted in the same way as the previous association president election."

Meanwhile, Innovation Committee Chairman Park Ji-sung stated that he will not attend the National Assembly hearing, for which he was summoned to appear on July 22.
