A driver in her 30s has been apprehended by police after causing a fatal accident while driving under the influence.
The Paju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province is investigating a woman in her 30s, identified as A, who was driving an SUV, on charges of causing death and injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
A is accused of driving while intoxicated and colliding with a passenger car at a three-way intersection without traffic lights in Wadong-dong, Paju, Gyeonggi Province, at approximately 11:10 p.m. yesterday (July 12), resulting in the death of the other driver.
Following the accident, the driver of the passenger car, a man in his 50s, was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest but later died. His daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle, also sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Police investigation revealed that the SUV driven by A struck the passenger car as it was making a left turn while the SUV was traveling straight.
It was confirmed that A's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident was at a level warranting the revocation of her driver's license.
Police suspect that speeding contributed to the accident and plan to investigate the exact circumstances once A completes her medical treatment.
