People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyuk said today (the 13th), "I am contemplating how to innovate and change our party, and what we should fight for. There will be a time in the near future when I present these thoughts to the public."
Representative Jang attended the 'Yeouido Institute Youth Policy Leader 6th Cohort Completion Ceremony and Policy Proposal Delivery Ceremony' held at the central party headquarters in Yeouido today. During a Q&A session with young people, he stated, "The topic that I and the leadership have been pondering recently is, 'Ultimately, what should the People Power Party fight for, and what direction should our innovation take?'"
When a young person in their 20s pointed out that "as a responsible party member who pays party dues, I have never received proper party member education," Representative Jang replied, "A political party is a group of people who share values and direction. If members do not have the same thoughts on those values and the direction the party should take, the party is bound to fall into confusion and conflict."
He further mentioned, "When someone who does not understand the party joins and becomes active, it can sometimes be an energy for the party, but it can also become a negative energy."
Representative Jang said, "Since becoming party representative, I have made various efforts to change the People Power Party. I have worked to open the door wider for young people to participate in real-world politics and to lower the barriers to entry." He added, "After changing the system, it eventually comes back to the issue of the people who operate that system. That is why I reach the conclusion that 'in the end, it is about people.'"
He continued, "I believe that to change the People Power Party, we must ultimately change the people," and urged them, saying, "That is why I hope young people will join the People Power Party, take on many roles, bring a fresh breeze to the party, and engage in new politics for the People Power Party."
Representative Jang advised, "The temperature felt by our youth and the temperature felt by established politicians are different. For example, the level of anger felt by young people regarding the recent ballot paper shortage incident is different from that of established politicians," adding, "Ultimately, for the things that young people want to be created into systems and laws in the way they most desire, young people must do it themselves."
Representative Jang received a policy proposal document created through discussions by about 100 young people who were active in the Yeouido Institute, the party's think tank.
The event was attended by Supreme Council members Shin Dong-wook and Cho Kwang-han, Yeouido Institute Director Cho Seung-hwan, and Chief of Staff to the Representative Park Jun-tae.
