The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced today (July 13) that it is beginning the process of merging the membership systems of the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) and SR ahead of the launch of an integrated mobile application next month.
To facilitate this, a dedicated website for integrated membership conversion will be operational starting tomorrow, July 14.
Detailed instructions and procedures for accessing the site can be found in the notices section of the SRT website.
The membership integration process applies to users who are registered with both KORAIL and SR, or those registered only with SR.
Users registered only with KORAIL will be automatically converted.
Users with overlapping memberships at both KORAIL and SR must go through a consent process to transfer their usage history, such as SRT ticket purchase records, and discount coupons to the new account.
Those who were only registered with SR will undergo a process to sign up for a new KORAIL account while transferring their existing records and benefits.
To minimize inconvenience for users who are less familiar with internet and mobile services, the Ministry plans to provide guidance on the conversion process at major train stations nationwide.
The integrated app will be released early next month as an update to the existing KORAIL Talk app.
Users will be able to book tickets for integrated train services starting in September.
The Ministry plans to minimize confusion by maintaining the non-member booking feature on the existing SRT app even after the integrated app is launched.
Kim Tae-byeong, Director General of the Railway Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "This membership integration is the first step toward ensuring that the public can conveniently use the integrated app launching in August and the integrated train services beginning in September," adding, "We will do our utmost to provide prior guidance and promotion to ensure there is no inconvenience to the public."
