The number of users searching for the girl group RESCENE on the music platform Melon has increased by more than 65 times since the birth of their viral catchphrase, "Geoje Ya-ho."
According to Melon, as of the end of June, the number of users searching for RESCENE on the platform surged by 6,550% compared to March 20, the date a YouTube video featuring the "Geoje Ya-ho" phrase was uploaded.
RESCENE is a five-member girl group consisting of Woni, Liv, Minami, May, and Zena, who debuted in March 2024.
Their signature song, "LOVE ATTACK," climbed to 65th on the Melon daily chart in May of last year, nine months after its release. After a gradual decline, the song began to climb the charts again in March of this year after Japanese member Minami shouted "Geoje Ya-ho" on leader Woni's YouTube channel.
Driven by "Geoje Ya-ho" emerging as one of the most popular memes this spring, "LOVE ATTACK" entered the top tier of the charts and eventually reached No. 1 on the Melon "Top 100" chart on July 8.
This marked the group's first time reaching the top spot, two years and four months after their debut and one year and 11 months after the release of "LOVE ATTACK."
According to Melon, as of the end of June, the streaming volume for "LOVE ATTACK" increased by 2,019% compared to February, when the group's YouTube channel was launched, while the number of listeners grew by 977% during the same period.
RESCENE also ranked first among all girl groups and seventh among all artists in terms of concurrent users during a live chat event held on July 8 on Melon's real-time communication service, Music Wave.
Melon analyzed, "As music played on Music Wave is directly reflected in the Melon charts, this live chat event likely had a significant impact on 'LOVE ATTACK' reaching No. 1 on the 'Top 100' chart for the first time at 10 p.m. on July 8."
As of July 9, the cumulative number of streams generated on the RESCENE Music Wave channel reached approximately 560,000.
"LOVE ATTACK" remains at No. 1 on the Melon "Top 100" chart as of 2 p.m. today (July 13).
Their new song "Pretty Girl," a remake of the hit song of the same name by the girl group KARA, has also reached the top tier, ranking 6th.
