Citizens have been collapsing while out for walks and workers have suffered convulsions at construction sites due to the heatwave over the past weekend, prompting calls for caution regarding heat-related illnesses.
According to fire authorities, on July 12 at 5:00 p.m., a man in his 60s, identified as A, suddenly collapsed with convulsions while heading home after working at a construction site in Deogyang-gu, Goyang.
Fire authorities transported A to a hospital, suspecting that he suffered heat cramps after working in the sweltering heat.
On the same day at 1:15 p.m., a report was received that a man in his 60s was shivering and complaining of dizziness on an apartment bench in Goyang. Around the same time, an accident occurred in Goyang where a man in his 80s suddenly felt dizzy and fell while out for a walk for approximately two hours.
Fire authorities diagnosed their symptoms as heat exhaustion caused by high temperatures and transported them to a hospital.
In the northern Gyeonggi region, heatwave warnings were in effect for Goyang and Namyangju, while heatwave advisories were issued for Uijeongbu, Guri, Pocheon, Dongducheon, Yeoncheon, and Paju.
Heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and heat exhaustion can potentially lead to death, requiring sufficient vigilance and preparation.
As the intense heat begins, outdoor activities should be minimized, and people should seek shelter in cooling centers, shaded areas, or air-conditioned facilities to hydrate and rest.
In particular, it is important to check on the safety of vulnerable groups, such as elderly people living alone, and if symptoms suspected of heat-related illness such as dizziness or headaches appear, one should immediately call 119 and move to a cool place.
