President Lee to Preside Over National Fiscal Strategy Meeting; Additional Semiconductor Tax Revenue Expected to Be Discussed

President Lee Jae-myung will preside over the National Fiscal Strategy Meeting at the Blue House today (July 13).

The meeting, held under the slogan "An Irreplaceable Republic of Korea Opened Through Bold Innovation and Investment," will discuss future fiscal management directions and key investment priorities. Approximately 130 officials from the party, government, and the Blue House are expected to attend.

From the government, Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, cabinet members, and representatives from all ministries, including ministerial-level agencies and offices, will be in attendance.

Attendees from the Blue House include Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, National Security Office Director Wi Sung-lac, Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom, and Fiscal Planning Advisor Ryu Deok-hyun. From the Democratic Party, Acting Leader and Floor Leader Han Byung-do and Policy Committee Chair Han Jeoung-ae will participate.

Representatives from academia, research institutions, and civil society are also scheduled to be present.

In the first session of the meeting, Minister of Planning and Budget Park Hong-keun will present the "2027 Budget Plan and Mid-term Fiscal Management Direction." In the second session, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon will present on "Mega Projects: AI Data Centers and Physical AI," followed by Minister of Trade and Industry Kim Jung-kwan on "Mega Projects: Semiconductors and AI Robots," Minister of Climate and Energy Kim Sung-hwan on "Infrastructure Innovation Strategy for Advanced Industry Power and Water Supply," and Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok on "Strategy for Developing Advanced Semiconductor Industrial Complexes."

The subsequent third session, themed "Growth for All," will feature presentations by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy Koo Yoon-cheol on "Direction for Youth Policy," Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Young-hoon on "Strengthening Social Safety Nets to Protect the Lives of All Workers," and Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon on "Direction for Promoting AI for All," followed by discussions for each session.

In particular, the meeting is expected to include full-scale discussions on the operation of a future response fund utilizing additional tax revenue from the semiconductor sector.
