The body of a Navy frigate crew member who went missing near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the East Sea on July 12 has been recovered approximately one day after the disappearance.

The Navy announced in a press release today (July 13) that "the body of the Navy sailor, who went missing from a patrol ship in the East Sea yesterday, was discovered and recovered at 5:58 a.m. today in waters 52 km east of Geojin-eup, Goseong-gun, in the East Sea."

The Navy, in coordination with the Coast Guard, had been conducting a search operation for the missing person, deploying over 10 vessels and several aircraft.

The missing sailor, who was serving on a Navy frigate performing patrol duties in waters approximately 50 km east of Geojin-eup, Goseong-gun, was reportedly last seen by a duty officer who was patrolling inside the ship between midnight and 2 a.m. the previous day.

It is reported that the disappearance was discovered when the sailor failed to show up for duty at 8 a.m.

Given that the location of the disappearance was in waters near the NLL, the military notified the North Korean side of the incident through channels such as the international merchant ship communication network, which can also be received by North Korea.
