A 60-year-old academy instructor who committed multiple sex crimes against his teenage student has been sentenced to prison.
The Changwon District Court Criminal Division 2 (Presiding Judge Kim Seong-hwan) announced on July 12 that it sentenced the 60-year-old man, identified as A, to 5 years in prison on charges including quasi-rape of a minor.
The court also ordered him to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and imposed a 7-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and the disabled.
A was indicted on charges of committing sex crimes against his student, a teenager identified as B, on three occasions between July 2023 and February 2025.
He is also accused of illegally filming B's body during the commission of the crimes.
The court stated the reasons for the sentencing, saying, "The nature of the crime is very grave in that he treated his minor student as an object for his sexual gratification as an instructor, and he has not shown a sincere attitude of remorse, such as by denying some of the charges." However, the court added, "We have taken into account that he is a first-time offender with no prior criminal record."
