South Korean golf's young gun Kim Joo-hyung has broken a long silence, clinching the title at the PGA Tour Genesis Scottish Open (total prize money of $9 million).
On the final day of the tournament held at The Renaissance Club (par 70) in North Berwick, Scotland, on July 13 (KST), Kim delivered a flawless performance, carding six birdies and no bogeys in the fourth round.
With a total of 17-under 263, Kim finished two strokes ahead of Australian-Korean Lee Min-woo (15-under 265) to claim the victory.
Kim, who had been in a slump since his win at the Shriners Children's Open in October 2023, added another victory after 33 months. At the age of 24, he has now recorded four career PGA Tour wins and earned a winner's prize of $1.62 million (approximately 2.4 billion won).
Having signaled his exit from the slump with a solo third-place finish at the major US Open last June, Kim will now challenge for the title at the British Open, which begins on July 16.
Due to the tournament being delayed by fog, Kim had to play the remaining holes of the third round followed by the 18 holes of the fourth round consecutively at this year's Scottish Open.
Starting the fourth round tied for 4th place, one stroke behind the leader, Kim shaved three strokes off his score on the front nine. He then took a two-stroke lead after sinking a 4.5-meter birdie putt on the 10th hole (par 4).
Kim added another birdie on the 12th hole (par 5) by landing his third shot 1.8 meters from the hole, and moved closer to victory by picking up another stroke on the 16th hole (par 4).
On the 18th hole (par 4), although his second shot missed the green, he secured the win by chipping close to the hole and finishing with a par putt.
Kim Si-woo, who also competed in the tournament, shot 4-under on the final day to finish tied for 9th with a total of 11-under 269.
