Yoo Hae-ran has announced the arrival of a new major queen by conquering her second consecutive major tournament on the LPGA Tour.
On July 12, Yoo won the season's fourth major tournament, the Amundi Evian Championship (total prize money of $9.1 million), after a tense playoff against Brooke Henderson (Canada) in the final round held at the Evian Resort Golf Club (par 71) in Evian-les-Bains, France.
Yoo and Henderson finished the 72 holes tied at 19-under 265. In the playoff held on the 18th hole (par 5), Yoo secured a birdie to defeat Henderson, who finished with a par.
Having won the season's third major, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, last month, Yoo lifted another major trophy just two weeks later and received a winner's prize of $1.4 million (approximately 2.1 billion won).
It is the first time in 7 years since Ko Jin-young in 2019 that a South Korean player has won two or more major tournaments in a single season.
At that time, Ko Jin-young won the ANA Inspiration (now the Chevron Championship) and the Evian Championship.
Yoo also became the fourth South Korean player to win this tournament since it was elevated to a major championship in 2013, following Kim Hyo-joo (2014), Chun In-gee (2016), and Ko Jin-young (2019).
