A seaman, identified by his surname A, who was on patrol duty aboard a Navy frigate 50 km east of Geojin-eup, Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, went missing this morning (July 12).

The Navy and the Korea Coast Guard have dispatched over 10 vessels and aircraft to conduct search operations.

Considering that the area where the seaman went missing is adjacent to the Northern Limit Line, the Ministry of Unification has requested cooperation from North Korea for search and repatriation on humanitarian grounds.
