The sweltering heat is not cooling down even after the sun goes down. Following yesterday, July 11, tropical nights are expected in many parts of the country today as well. Let us connect with our weather caster.

Caster Ahn Su-jin, is this the first time a tropical night advisory has been issued for Seoul this year?

[Weather Caster]

The intense heat is continuing regardless of the time of day.

During the day, the sun was so strong that hardly any citizens could be seen at Hangang Park.

Now that the sun has set, you can see citizens gathering at the park to try and escape the heat, even if just for a little while.

Following the first tropical night of the year in Seoul last night, a tropical night advisory has been issued today.

A tropical night advisory is issued when the peak perceived temperature remains at or above 33°C (91°F) for two or more consecutive days, and the overnight low temperature is 26°C (79°F) or higher in Seoul. This is the first time such an advisory has been issued for Seoul since the system was introduced.

Tropical night advisories are expanding nationwide as well.

They are currently in effect for most areas, excluding some coastal and mountainous regions.

Please check your indoor temperature before going to bed, and make sure to use air conditioning or ventilation. It is also recommended to stay well-hydrated before sleep.

How long is this heat expected to last?

[Weather Caster]

The Korea Meteorological Administration has announced that this heat will peak today and tomorrow.

Tomorrow, the perceived temperature will remain above 33°C (91°F) in most regions. In particular, southern areas directly affected by warm and humid southerly winds could see perceived temperatures soar to 38°C (100°F).

This heat is expected to ease on Tuesday and Wednesday as rain falls across the country.

However, the heat will likely persist in the southern regions where rainfall is expected to be lower, and the heat will return to the central regions once the rain stops.

The rain forecast for the central regions on Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be heavy and intense, so please take necessary precautions.
