Prime Minister Han Seong-sook invited public officials who received awards for so-called proactive administration to her official residence today (the 12th) for a meal.
The first 'Open Brunch' event, held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, was attended by nine individuals recognized for their proactive administrative efforts from central government agencies, local governments, and public institutions.
Proactive administration refers to cases where public officials interpret and apply laws flexibly from the perspective of the public or promote creative and innovative ideas.
When Kim Deok-nyeong, a senior researcher at the Korea Expressway Corporation, introduced ultra-precision road safety diagnostic technology utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D digital technology, Prime Minister Han remarked, "The level of accident prevention could be elevated to a new stage."
She continued, "It was impressive to hear that data has been accumulated and analyzed in the field for a long time, and that AI is the technology that puts the finishing touch on that process," adding, "Technology itself should not be the goal, but a means to improve the lives and safety of the public and enhance administrative services."
She further stated, "I hope that as AI meets proactive administration, there will be more cases where the public can tangibly feel the changes," and added, "I will actively support inter-agency collaboration and the integration of (public) data."
The Open Brunch is a new program established after Prime Minister Han took office, and today marked its first session.
The Prime Minister's Office stated, "We plan to continue using the Open Brunch to meet with various citizens, including small business owners, young people, researchers, and entrepreneurs, to listen directly to their voices from the field and connect them to policy."
