A fire broke out at a chick hatchery in Chaeun-myeon, Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, at approximately 10:50 a.m. today (July 12).

The fire destroyed 500,000 to 900,000 eggs intended for hatching and 100 square meters of the hatchery facility before being extinguished by the 119 fire department at 11:25 a.m., about 40 minutes after it started.

Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident, based on reports that welding work was being conducted at the time of the fire.
