A man in his 60s, identified as A, was found dead in the bathroom of a detached house in Chunpo-myeon, Iksan, North Jeolla Province, at approximately 8:30 a.m. today (July 12) by firefighters.
Police were dispatched after the village head reported that A, who had a disability, had not been seen for several days. Upon finding signs of a fire inside the house, the police requested a joint response from the fire department.
The bathroom door was locked at the time.
It has been confirmed that there were no prior reports of a fire at the residence made to 119.
Police and fire authorities are investigating the circumstances, considering the possibility that A may have died from smoke inhalation while attempting to extinguish the fire himself.
